Imagine a place but a short drive from home that offers the soothing sence that one is no longer affected by everyday distractions. Set amidst some of the most panormic 800 ares of the Upper Hudson River
Valley and the Catskill Mountains, the Nevele Grande Resort and Country Club provides an intimate estate of guest accommodations, conference facilities, and recreational amenities. The Nevele Grande Resort and Country Club has recently undergone a multimillion dollar renovation, ushering in a new era of casual sophistication. Out 700 room resort features 18 holes of championship golf, 15 outdoor and eight indoor tennis courts, five pools and an extensive program of family and children activities.
The White/Red Course is the original Nevele 18 and very good in its own right. For what appears to be an open course, the White/Red can be tight with numerous doglegs and well-placed fairway bunkers. What makes the White/Red sneaky tough (it’s not that long at 6,532 yards) is a stern collection of par 3’s. All four can play more than 200 yards, requiring precise long irons to greens that aren’t exactly roomy.
Tom Fazio redesigned several holes in the early 1990s, bringing water and strategic bunkering into play on the 9th, 16th and 18th holes. Some might say Fazio tricked up the 16th hole with water hazards prominently in play off the tee and fronting the green. There is definitely no margin for error here – any kind of mishit will be making a splash landing. Whatever you think of the hole, there’s no question it’s on your mind the entire back nine – no score is safe on the Red/White until the 16th is played.
The top three reasons to play the Nevele Grande:
1. Scenic beauty – “With the surrounding mountains, it’s very majestic.”
2. Very good test of golf
3. Luxury of having three different styles of golf
